April 15, 2014

WOONSOCKET -- The opening game was one to erase from the memory bank. The next three showed why Mount St. Charles is perfect in the Division I-North ranks and could be one of the teams to beat come tournament time in June.
After watching a 24-16 lead evaporate in a first-game loss to La Salle, the Mounties came out for the next game firing on all cylinders and never took their foot off the accelerator in fashioning a 3-1 victory over their visiting rivals.

SCITUATE --- One third of its way through its Division II-North schedule, North Smithfield is looking like not only the team to beat in the North, but also one of the elite squads in the entire division.

The Northmen continued their spectacular start on Monday afternoon by winning for the fifth time in as many games, defeating Scituate by a 5-1 score at Manning Field behind an 11-hit attack and another masterful outing by ace pitcher Karissa Carlton.

Still, she was only 17 so enlisted some help.

CUMBERLAND – The keys to the Clippers’ football program have been handed to a 27-year-old first-time varsity head coach.

The lack of experience when it comes to leading young men, or his age, should not yield shrugs of disbelief. There’s plenty of pigskin knowledge tucked inside the mind of Josh Lima, the choice to replace departed Cumberland mentor Chris Skurka, who in January accepted a coaching position that specifically entails overseeing the linebackers and special teams at Dean College.
