April 16, 2014

WOONSOCKET — For Lincoln High junior Mason Palmieri, it doesn’t get much better these days.

On Monday, Palmieri verbally committed to join the Bryant University ‘9’ beginning in the fall of 2015. On Wednesday, the pitcher with the towering mound presence tossed a complete-game five-hitter in Lincoln’s 4-2 victory over Woonsocket at Renaud Field.

April 16, 2014

PAWTUCKET — The right shoulder tenderness that grounded Matt Barnes for the majority of spring training has subsided to the point where the Red Sox pitching prospect believes it’s only a matter of time before he departs Fort Myers.

When Barnes will be officially granted exile so that he can take the mound for the PawSox … let’s just say there’s a cloak and dagger element in play.

“I don’t know when I’m leaving, but all I know is that I feel real good right now,” said Barnes from Florida earlier this week. “I’ll let the people who are in charge make the important decisions.”

PAWTUCKET — It’s still April and high school baseball teams continue to search for their identity while Mother Nature struggles to find her own winning form.
On a blustery Wednesday afternoon at Vets Park field, a flock of geese looked for food in the barren outfield as Cumberland and St. Raphael Academy squared off, each seeking a badly-needed victory.

MSC overcomes opening-game loss to spike La Salle

WOONSOCKET -- The opening game was one to erase from the memory bank. The next three showed why Mount St. Charles is perfect in the Division I-North ranks and could be one of the teams to beat come tournament time in June.
After watching a 24-16 lead evaporate in a first-game loss to La Salle, the Mounties came out for the next game firing on all cylinders and never took their foot off the accelerator in fashioning a 3-1 victory over their visiting rivals.
