Man sets fire to his own home, police say

July 4, 2013

UXBRIDGE – A 43-year-old Uxbridge man was arrested Wednesday night after police charged him with setting fire to his own home on Albee Road.
Christian Carven, 43, of 4 Albee Road, was charged and arraigned in Uxbridge District 5 Court Friday on one count of arson in a dwelling.
According to police and fire officials, Carven lived in the home with his wife and two children, but was home alone in the historic farmhouse on Wednesday. Authorities said Carven left the house then returned a short time later around 4:45 p.m. as firefighters from five towns were fighting the two-alarm blaze that heavily damaged the house.
No one was injured in the fire, but one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
Firefighters from Uxbridge, Mendon, Millville, Northbridge, and Douglas had the fire contained by 6 p.m.
Carvin was arrested at the Uxbridge police station following questioning by Uxbridge police and investigators from the state fire marshal's office.
Police said there's been an on-going family dispute between Craven and a neighbor over shared conservation land.
Police Chief Peter Emerick said further details would be released by the Worcester County District Attorney's office.
A spokesman for State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said that office is investigating.
