SLATERSVILLE- Thomas E. "Sonny" Riley, Jr., 83, of Slatersville, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Theresa (Gurka) Riley, whom he married May 30, 1950.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Thomas E. Riley, Sr. and Ida (Brunette) Riley. He was raised in Harrisville.
Mr. Riley was a foreman at Edgecomb Steel for over 30 years until his retirement and had also worked for Dumas Plumbing and Heating for 14 years. He was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. Mr. Riley was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and was an alter server at funerals there. He was a member of the North Smithfield Senior Citizens and the VFW Post #6342.
He leaves three daughters, Peggy Provencal and her husband Bruce and Jane Gaucher and her husband Glen, all of Harrisville and Patti Worath and her husband Frank of Denville, NJ; eight grandchildren, Eric, Melissa, Nathan, Jason, Chris, Tina, Nick and Adam; nine great grandchildren; and his companion Helen Varin of Slatersville.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 9 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, P.O.
