BELLINGHAM- Normand J. Casavant, 85, of Bellingham passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation in Marlborough, MA with his loving family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rita M. (Nault) Casavant.
Born in Bellingham on November 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Herve and Amelia (Lavallee) Casavant.
He was the loving father of Craig R. Casavant of Blackstone, MA, Suzanne M. Quirk and her husband, Raymond of Blackstone, MA, Gail M. Lewis and her husband, Ron of Bellingham, MA. He leaves his cherished grandchildren, Sean, Ryan and Lisa Quirk, Katie and Shelly Lewis, Danielle and Heather Casavant, and great-grandchildren, Joey and Sarah Quirk, and Farrah April.
He was a life long resident of Bellingham and had worked for 15 years for Sodexho/Marriott Food Service as an operational manager until retiring in 1993, and previously worked for 18 years at Dean College as an assistant food service director and also worked at the Lenox Restaurant. He was a volunteer fireman for the town of Bellingham for 32 years and also worked on the rescue for 14 years. He was a member of the Firemen IFFA Local and the International Rescue and First Aide Association, and also a member of the American Radio Relay League Inc.
Mr. Casavant was a United States Army Korean War Veteran attaining the rank of Sergeant and received the Korean Service Medal with 1 bronze service star and the United Nations Service Medal.
Devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 29th at 10:30AM at the Bethany Community Church, 15 Cape Road, Mendon, MA. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA with Military Honors. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cartier's Funeral Home, Bellingham, MA.
