Prime Healthcare submits application to buy Landmark

January 3, 2013

WOONSOCKET — A California-based hospital group’s bid to acquire Landmark Medical Center and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island inched forward yesterday as the company delivered its application to purchase the hospitals to state regulators under the Hospital Conversions Act.
State Health Director Michael Fine and Attorney General Peter Kilmartin now have 30 days to determine whether the voluminous amount of paperwork tendered by Prime Healthcare Services is complete.
The delivery of the application comes after Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein recently relaxed Prime’s deadline to do so by about a month. Silverstein had granted Prime exclusive bargaining rights for the hospitals on Sept. 27.
“We’re certainly pleased to be at this stage,” said Bill Fischer, spokesman for Landmark Medical Center. “To only ask for one extension from the court and to be able to get all this information together in and around the holidays was a pretty enormous task.”
