Woonsocket man faces DUI charge in Lincoln

December 26, 2012

LINCOLN — A Woonsocket man faces a charge of drunken driving after allegedly driving onto the wrong on-ramp to Route 116 early Saturday morning.
Patrolman Richard J. Bousquet reported responding to an accident at that location and found Dana W. Braley, 50, of Papineau Avenue, Woonsocket, sitting on the grass at the side of the vehicle, highly intoxicated.
The driver exhibited slurred speech and uncooperative behavior toward officers at the scene, according to Bousquet. He was wearing jeans soaked in urine and indicated he’d been drinking at a local cafe, police said. Braley indicated he had not been injured in the accident and declined medical attention at the scene, according to Bousquet.
While speaking with the officers, Braley was alleged to have become argumentative while appearing to be unsteady on his feet. He was reported to have failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police reported Braley's vehicle appeared to have been traveling south on Route 146 when it veered off the road down the side of the highway and came to rest on the Route 146 on-ramp from Route 116. The vehicle's travel to the on-ramp left observable marks on the grass off the highway, police said.
Braley refused to submit to a chemical test and was thus cited, police said. He was issued a summons to appear in District Court on the driving under the influence charge and also a summons to appear at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal for the refusal citation.
