Ex-teacher in sex scandal paroled

December 6, 2012

WOONSOCKET – A former Woonsocket Middle School teacher convicted of having a sexual relationship with a female student has been paroled from the Adult Correctional Institutions after serving just 12 years of a 20-year sentence.
Richard R. Lalime Jr., 42, registered as a sex offender with the Woonsocket Police Department on Nov. 21, the same day he was released from the ACI.
A former athletic coach and physical education teacher, Lalime had a relationship with a student that began when she was 12 years old and lasted until she was 14. The relationship was discovered when a Millville police officer saw them walking out of the woods together one day in April 2001 and Lalime was arrested.
He was later charged with 15 counts of child rape and abuse of a child in Massachusetts for incidents that occurred in Bellingham and Blackstone as well as Millville. In Rhode Island, he faced with seven more counts of child rape and third-degree sexual assault for incidents that occurred in the now-shuttered Woonsocket Middle School on West Park Place, his home in Woonsocket and a ballfield in Cumberland.
The late Superior Court Judge William Dimitri sentenced Lalime to 40 years on the Rhode Island charges, including 20 to serve at the ACI and 20 suspended with probation.
