WOONSOCKET â€“ Budget constraints have forced the school district into consolidation mode, but Schools Supt. Giovanna Donoyan is looking for volunteers who are ready to rebuild a vibrant public school system.
The superintendent announced the effort to seat a five-year Strategic Planning Committee this week to set academic goals for the future of the school district.
Donoyan says it may seem like the school district is in the doldrums now, but it should shoot for the stars and work hard to reach them in the future. Ultimately, she says, school districts that are perceived as high-performing become drivers of economic development by attracting new residents.
â€śA community is only as good as its school district,â€ť she says. â€śThereâ€™s infrastructure that grows out of a good school district.â€ť
Donoyan says the district is looking for 20 to 25 volunteers to sit on the planning committee. Itâ€™s great if applicants have some special talent or expertise they think might support their contribution, she says, but whatâ€™s most important is the desire to serve.
