BELLINGHAM- Margaret M. (Balzi) Alward, 76, of Bellingham, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Milford Regional Medical Center with her family by her side after a long illness. She was the beloved wife for 39 years of Paul A. Alward.
Born in Boston on November 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Josephine (Petrucci) Balzi.
She was the loving mother of D. Richard Manchester and his wife Julianne of Keene, NH, David A. Manchester and his wife Nancy of Bellingham, MA, Denise Manchester of Milford, MA, Sandra M. Scannell and her husband, Richard of Franklin, MA, Paul John Alward and his fiance Stephanie Turco of New Paltz, NY; and her cherished 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Phyllis Smeglin of Dorchester, MA, Viola Ferraro of Revere, MA, Adele Sestito of Taunton, MA, Anna Gangemi of Sandwich, MA, Louis Balzi of Sagamore, MA, and the late Olga Lynch, Jenny Dundon, Ida Piatelli, Josephine Karas and Richard Balzi. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A resident of Bellingham for 48 years formerly of Hyde Park, she was a bank teller for 17 years at Bank of America in Bellingham and Medfield until retiring in 2000. Margaret was a devoted catholic. She enjoyed swimming, the beaches and adored her grandchildren. Devoted to her family and friends, she will be greatly missed.
Funeral will be held on Thursday, February 17, at 10:00Am from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM at St. Blaise Church, 1158 So. Main St. Bellingham. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourn, MA at 2:30PM. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, February 16, from 5 to 8PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
