Budget Commission meets in closed session to cancel Donoyan’s contract

June 16, 2014

Giovanna Donoyan

WOONSOCKET – Schools Superintendent Giovanna Donoyan’s contract will not be renewed by the Budget Commission when it expires on Aug. 30, commission sources have confirmed.

The recently-seated, appointed School Committee had just voted in April to grant Donoyan a nine-month extension that would have locked her into the $150,000 a year superintendent’s job until June 2015.

In a closed-door meeting that was held at City Hall on June 4 without any advance public notice regarding the contract, however, members of the commission adopted a two-part resolution that, for one, vetoed the school’s committee’s action. Also, the resolution makes it clear that Donoyan’s existing contract will not be renewed.
