WOONSOCKET- Thomas Lloyd Ryan, 73, of Woonsocket, formerly of Warwick, died Monday evening at Woonsocket Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Paul and Irene (Lyons) Ryan. He was raised in Woonsocket and Blackstone. During his life Lloyd resided in Boston, New York City and Warwick before returning to Woonsocket.
Lloyd was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the 1960s. He was stationed in Korea with the Medical Corps and received the National Defense Service Medal.
Lloyd was a Rhode Island nursing home administrator for over 28 years before retiring.
Lloyd was involved in the restoration the Veterans Memorial Auditorium (popularly known as The VETS) in Providence. Among his many passions were sailing, photography, reading and enjoying classical music. Tom was proud of his Irish heritage and was a movie buff and took special delight in sharing that interest with his son Chris.
Lloyd will be remembered as a kind and intelligent man.
Lloyd is survived by his two sons Christopher R. Ryan and his fiancée Rebecca O'Connors of Warwick and Joseph Hagan currently in China. He was the former husband of Rita M. Ryan and Stephanie A. Ryan. He was the brother of David Ryan of Jamestown, William Ryan of Denver, CO, Molly Henderson of Woonsocket, Rory Ryan and Ann Kessinger both of Long Island New York, and the late P. Alan Ryan, Timothy Ryan and Larry Ryan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
His funeral service will be Saturday at 10:00 am in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave, Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, Farm St. Blackstone. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Morgan Sean Ryan Fund AS220, 95 Mathewson Street, #204, Providence, RI. 02903, a fund established in memory of Tom's nephew.
