Louisa M. Giard

BURRILLVILLE - Louisa M. "Louise" Giard, 100, lifelong Burrillville resident, passed away on July 18, 2012 at the Overlook Nursing Home in Pascoag.
Born in Oakland, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Maryanne (Levesque) Langlois.
Louise had worked all her life in the textile industry as a mender and in her spare time, she loved to read and do puzzles. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

CUMBERLAND - Rita V. Guertin 86, of Mendon Rd., died Wednesday at St. Antoine Residence. She was the wife of Paul Guertin with whom she married sixty six years ago.
Born in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Alphonse and Lucy (Riquier) Richard. Rita worked in the housekeeping department at Verizon for thirty years before retiring twenty eight years ago. She was a member of St. Joseph Sr. Citizens. Rita was an avid bingo player and loved to gamble.

Former dispatcher charged with child enticement

BURRILLVILLE — A 51-year-old Burrillville man, a former Woonsocket Police Department dispatcher, was arrested Tuesday on charges stemming from an incident in which he sent lewd text messages to a youth, police said.
Burrillville Police Major Lareto P. Guglietta said a report was filed Monday with the Burrillville police by a concerned mother who said her son was receiving lewd text messages from an adult male.

PROVIDENCE – Accusing his opponent of “serial hypocrisy,” Republican U.S. Senate candidate Barry Hinckley blasted Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse for leaving the Senate floor after promising to debate his DISCLOSE Act “long into the night,” to attend a fundraiser held by a group Hinckley claims would be exempt from that proposed law.

Landmark falls back to litigation on rates

WOONSOCKET – Landmark Medical Center is asking a Superior Court judge for permission to move forward with a lawsuit accusing Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island of starving the hospital into insolvency with unfairly low reimbursements.
It’s the latest salvo in an increasingly acrimonious relationship between Landmark and BCBSRI that Landmark President Richard Charest says now jeopardizes the sale – and survival – of the hospital.

LINCOLN — The last time local fight fans saw Thomas Falowo in action, they were in an uproar over the split decision victory awarded to his opponent, Samuel Clarkson of Cedar Hill, Texas.
In that middleweight fight back on May 24 at Twin River, Falowo not only ruled four of the six rounds, but he also delivered a first-round knockdown.
And while Clarkson ended the night looking like he’d tussled in a 12-round slugfest, Falowo had barely a scratch on him.

Iglesias, Linares are PawSox's 'Cuban Connection'

PAWTUCKET — The sight of Jose Iglesias and J.C. Linares engaging in playful banter in their native tongue often leads to one or both players breaking out into mischievous smiles. Usually the exchange is often loud enough that everyone in the PawSox clubhouse is aware that Iglesias and Linares are up to their old tricks.
Then again, not everyone can understand what is actually being discussed, so it’s like Iglesias and Linares are the only ones in the room, operating in a universe that only a select few have the privilege of completely understanding.

BLACKSTONE - Dennis C. Pruitt 65, of St. Paul St. died Wednesday at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in San Francisco, CA, he was the son of the late Robert and Lorraine Pruitt. He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Dennis was a teacher for forty two years, the last ten years he taught at Good Sheperd Catholic Regional School. He studied to be a Franciscan Brother in Kissemee, FL. Dennis was the past Director of Religious Education at All Saints Parish, and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph's Church.

BELLINGHAM, MA - Lucille T. (Vallee) Hardy, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Gerald C. Hardy; they were married on September 4, 1950.
Born on December 18, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Leda (St. Germain) Vallee. Lucille grew up in Blackstone, MA and graduated from Presentation of Mary Academy in Hudson, NH. She had resided in Bellingham since 1956, previously living in Blackstone.

NORTH SMITHFIELD - Steven J. Hood, 44, of St. Paul St., died July 11, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of James S. and Nancy J. (Fellenbaum) Hood.
Mr. Hood was an employee of Housing Opportunities, Providence.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother Kevin Hood and his wife Maria of Burrillville; his sister Shelley Hood of Providence; and four nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Jeffrey Hood.
