PROVIDENCE â Mount St. Charles Academy has relied primarily on its offense to get the job done this season.
Wednesday night it was the defense turn to make the headlines.
Lauren Deguire's goal in the first period was all the offense that was needed as the top-seeded Mounties held off No. 2 seed Bay View Academy, 2-0, in the opener of their best-of-three championship finals at Providence College's Schneider Arena.
WOONSOCKET â He never smoked or drank. No one can recall that he ever raised his voice in anger. And the khakis and loafers he was fond of wearing were as low-key as his personality.

MILLVILLE â This week would have been just around the time that John F. Dean Sr. would dye his trademark white beard green in honor of St. Patrickâs Day. It was a springtime tradition that would often turn the heads of passing motorists while Dean, looking like an over-sized leprechaun, was out with his highway crews filling potholes.
Today, rather, it was a somber mood in Millville, as friends and family mourned the passing of 78-year-old Dean, a lifelong resident of Millville and longtime town highway surveyor, who died Tuesday at Landmark Medical Center after a brief illness.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Roderick J. Ducharme Jr. of No. Smithfield, passed away on March 10, 2011.
Born Dec. 18, 1926 in Pascoag, RI, he was the son of the late Roderick & Aldea (Martin) Ducharme. Roderick proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He is survived by a brother Robert J. Ducharme of Woonsocket and a sister Rita M. Wash of Lake Forest, CA.

GLOCESTER- Pelletier, Andrew, R. 26 a life long Glocester resident passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011. He was the beloved son of Brenda M. (Lawton) Pelletier of Glocester and Charles E. Pelletier of Greenville.
He was the fianc of Melanie C. McCaffrey. Andrew was a machinist/technician for the Composite Rigging Company of North Kingstown. Andrew was a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout, he was a lover of all animals, an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan and car enthusiast.

MILLVILLE, MA- John F. Dean, Sr., 78, of Millville, passed away Wed. March 16, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Betty (DeFilippo) Dean.
Blanche R. Levesque
PORT SAINT LUCIE FLORIDA- R. Blanche Levesque 95, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida passed away March 16, 2011 at Treasure Coast Hospice House.
She was born May 11, 1915 in Mohegan, Rhode Island and lived in Oakland, Rhode Island for most of her life.
Blanche moved to Port Saint Lucie from Watertown, Massachusetts in 2003. She retired as a LPN from Zambarano Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years J. George Levesque.
Survivors include Son Dennis Levesque and partner Hugo Hernandez of Port Saint Lucie, and friend David Mazochi.
Alfred Whittaker
ATTLEBORO, MA- Alfred Whittaker, 90, of Attleboro, MA, formerly of Fall River, MA passed away on Wednesday March 16, 2011 at the LifeCare Center in Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Juliette (Meyrelles) Whittaker.
Alfred was born in Fall River the son of the late Thomas and Lillie (Lyons) Whittaker.
WOONSOCKET â A Family Court judge yesterday âcertifiedâ a 17-year-old boy accused in a stabbing last April that left an elderly man paralyzed â a status that falls a step short of waiving him into adult courts.
But Amy Kempe, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, said the ruling also places the boy in jeopardy of serving an adult-length prison sentence if the courts determine he was responsible for the stabbing.
âItâs kind of a bifurcated approach,â said Kempe. âHeâll be tried in Family Court but heâll be subject to adult sentencing.â
